Founding Partner – SMOK Ventures

Engineer turned Entrepreneur turned Investor. Geek. Film buff. Basketball fan.

I’m a founding partner at SMOK Ventures where we fund top early stage entrepreneurs (checks from €50k to €1M) based in Central & Eastern Europe. We focus on software and gaming startups.

At ReaktorX pre-acceleration program (http://reaktorx.com) I look for first-time founders who understand their industry and want to build a sustainable company. Read more at TechCrunch (https://techcrunch.com/2016/11/14/warsaws-reaktorx-aims-to-help-busy-people-start-businesses/).

Previously I co-founded Filmaster (acquired by Samba TV in 2015) which provided Netflix-like personalization and analytics solutions for the entertainment industry helping television and online video providers rapidly capture and analyse user preferences in order to deliver a comprehensive picture of the audience and drive incremental admissions / viewership. After the acqisition by Samba TV I helped the company bring its products to the European markets and scale the team from 4 to 40 in four years.

I helped found Startup Poland, a leading technology think tank in Poland and the community voice of Polish startups. I’m currently a board member of the foundation.

I also co-founded ReaktorWarsaw.com, a Bay-Area-style startup mansion where startups worked, collaborated and networked between 2011 and 2020. Reaktor was home of the famous OpenReaktor events and the ReaktorX pre-acceleration program.

I occasionally mentor early stage startups at Google for Startups, The Founder Institute, Huge Thing, Startup Spotlight, EMERGE, as well as other accelerators and tech conferences in CEE region.

I was named one of fifty most creative Polish entrepreneurs by Brief in 2012. Probably prematurely.

I spoke at DLD, How to Web, infoShare, CinemaCon, MIPTV, CineEurope, Digital Freedom Festival & more.

I blog at borys.musielak.eu and tweet as @michuk.
